I’ve never blogged about a comment before, but this one irritated me so much that I feel a need to address it. It was left in response to my post “The Date“. While I did respond to the comment with one of my own, I think I should set the record straight here and now. I would hate for anyone else to think I’m just another stupid woman in the world.

First, here’s the comment:

“During a particularly non-exciting part of Hancock, something started nagging at me… I just wasn’t feeling this. Not just the movie, but Hot Future Doctor. He’s attractive, he’s sweet, he’s funny, successful and he’s clearly driven. I’ve known him forever, I enjoy his company, we’re great friends and the sex has always been fantastic, but there’s something missing. For lack of a better word: Butterflies.”

Oh goodness….
i’m guessing that you will get the butterflies from someone who is a jerk, isn’t funny, has no job or works at 7-11 and has no drive or plan for his future….right?

Now let me make it perfectly clear that I am not “longing for” a Piece Of Shit. That’s fucking ridiculous and any woman who does that is a moron. Just because H.F.D. is an awesome guy doesn’t mean that I (or women in general) will automatically feel a connection with him. Chemistry is either there, or it isn’t. Period. And that in no way means that just because I’m not going to be with this good guy, that I’m going to be with an abusive asshole with no drive or plans for his future. There ARE other awesome guys in the world. I know this because I’ve loved a few… and someday I’ll love another one.

I think it’s sad that someone out there actually believes that just because a woman doesn’t snatch up any good guy she runs across, that she must be looking for an asshole to treat her like shit. That’s painfully ignorant. I know that there are women out there who DO pick assholes repeatedly, but I am not one of them. I value myself a hell of a lot more than that.

I’m sure you’re a nice person, “Dm”, but you are horribly misguided. I don’t know if you base your assumptions on someone who did you wrong, or other women in your life who have chosen bad men, but whatever is responsible for your belief system does not represent my entire gender. It sure as hell does not represent ME.

On May 15th of this year, The California Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage. A decision that I, personally, support whole-heartedly and that made me very proud to be a Californian.

About a week ago, one of my girlfriends got a call from her hometown courthouse in Bakersfield, CA. She and her (male) fiance (who will be deployed in August) had planned to marry there in July. She was told that they would not be able to get married there anymore, as they were putting a stop to all civil ceremonies as of Friday the 13th. She immediately knew why, although they didn’t outright tell her that they did not want to marry homosexuals.

A few minutes ago I was reading my Yahoo! homepage and came across a headline that read, “New law prompts Calif. county to halt all weddings“. I immediately knew which asshole county they were speaking of.

According to the article, the County Clerk, Ann Barnett, stated that “the increased demand for ceremonies would overwhelm her staff and pose office security risks.” Are you fucking kidding me? I’ve BEEN to Bakersfield. It’s a fucking shit-hole, nothing town that most of the state simply drives through on their way to places that DON’T suck. I find it very hard to believe that there are just hundreds of gay couples dying to get married there. I’d die of fucking shock if there were FIVE. I’d also like to know exactly how gays are security risks. Do they all carry guns now and threaten to kill those that don’t believe what they do? Oh wait… that’s not gays… it’s fucking intolerant, ignorant, “Christian” heteros.

The rest of the article states, “She made the announcement after learning she could not marry only couples of her choosing.” No. Fucking. Shit.

Ann Barnett is a homophobic, backwards-thinking moron who should NOT be allowed to shut down the courthouse because she doesn’t want to marry gay couples. I don’t want to deal with assholes, who’s faces I want to rip off, but I do because THAT’S MY JOB. Guess what YOUR job is Ms. Barnett? Marrying everyone who has the legal right to BE married. Period. If you don’t like it, find another job where you can inflict your bullshit on others without infringing on their rights.

Okay… Spammers have officially pissed me off and I am at the end of my proverbial rope. I’ve tested out several anti-spam plugins, but they weren’t working the way I wanted them to. So now I’m trying the WordPress included “Akismet”. I’ve heard both good and bad things about it, so I guess I’ll see for myself.

Since I am using Akismet, I will stop moderating comments in order to let it work, and do it’s thing. I will still be combing through the comments marked as spam, however- to make sure that nothing gets stuck that shouldn’t be.

If you leave me a comment, and it doesn’t show up, please feel free to shoot me an email and let me know. (corrina [at] myrandomblog [dot] net) I’m hoping this doesn’t suck because I’d really hate to start using CAPTCHA or some other kind of thing that causes my visitors to have to do anything but read, leave a witty comment and pimp their own blogs.
