Hooray Valium!

I’m home from the dentist and am happy to report that all went very well. My cracked tooth was a little more damaged than previously thought, so it had to go. And I am SOOOO glad. I’m not thrilled about the gaping hole in my mouth but it’ll heal with time. Thankfully it’s way in the back so you can’t see it unless I open wide and stick my mouth in your face. Which I don’t think I’ll be doing, as sexy as that sounds.

Since I’ve never had a tooth pulled out before, I was pretty nervous. Therefore the nice dental assistant gave me Valium. I’ve never taken Valium before, but I am impressed with it’s ability to chill me out completely. The procedure itself was painless. I didn’t even really feel the numbing shots, which was what I had been dreading most. Yanking out the tooth took some effort, but other than pressure- and the dentist’s foot on my chest- I didn’t feel pain at all.

(Kidding about the foot.)

So far my face is still made of rubber. (I’m half-tempted to just start piercing the whole right side of my face just because I wouldn’t feel it.) The second I regain feeling, I’m prepared with my NEW prescription of Vicodin to handle any pain that might attack me. I also have the next two days off and I plan to use them sleeping.

I’m tired and a bit woozy and think I’ll take a nap now.

Peace and dentists who rock hard with good drugs.

Several years back they had to fix my grill (All six top front teeth are crowned). Oh how I remember The “V” twins Vicodin and Valium. Hope you feel better soon. When I get to go home Sunday, I’ll have a beer for you.

Glad to hear you survived the horrors of the dentist’s office! Pretty soon you’ll be attempting to whistle through that “gaping hole”. ;-)

    Hooray for Vicodin, once again!!

Jake - Yes, pleeeease have a beer for me. I fear I won’t be able to have one of my own for a while… But my money’s on Sunday or Tuesday. Thanks for the feel better wishes too. :-) With the “V” twins… I’m sure I’ll be juuuuusssst fine.

Angi - I survived! LOL I can’t wait for the healing. I’m SO sick of gauze in my mouth. Seriously. I hate it. And I’m starving! Oh well… At least I won’t want to smash in my face with a hammer anymore. ha ha ha

It’s pretty painless with all the drugs. The first time I had a root canal everyone had me so nervous I had them drug me … put me out like a puppy. I was so sick afterwards. So the next time I stayed awake and just got a ‘local’ it was fine … way better. Couldn’t feel a thing.

Glad you home & feeling better :)

I know what you mean. Gauze is the WORST!! You really should try the tea bag thing when you’re feeling a little better - it tastes way better than gauze! I did that a lot when I had all FOUR wisdom teeth out the same day. I recommend chamomile or peppermint, they taste the best straight from the bag ;)

  6. Angi says:

    To clarify: REAL TEABAGS!!!! ;)

  7. Corrina says:

Oh, trust me Angi, I KNOW you mean real tea bags! LOL… I should not use dry ones though, right? Someone said to use dry ones- I’d think they should be wet first. Did you wet them first? Good grief this sounds stupid to me. Am I making sense? Vikey is good but not so much for a clear head.

  8. Corrina says:

And Drowsey, yes the local wasn’t bad at ALL. I didn’t even feel the shots. I felt the first one, but barely. He kept saying I’d feel an “electrical” feeling, but I don’t think I did.

  9. Nick Phillips says:

Well, good for you. At least that’s taken care of :D Hope you get back to the pinkest of health soon …

I can’t believe you didn’t even feel the numbing shot thing– wow, dentistry must have come a long way baby.
Glad to hear you’re in relief mode now!

you know that numbing stuff they give you at the dentist is deceitful. i used to beat my face up, pinch myself, make nail impressions in my cheek all because i couldn’t feel anything and it was fun. of course when it wore off, i would scream like….

I always say there is no pain quite like tooth pain. The way it just seems to shoot straight up into your skull…ugh.

The last time I had a cavity filled my dentist asked me if I wanted Novocain. I told him yes, of course, isn’t that assumed?? He said he has many patients who don’t like it and don’t get it. I can’t imagine letting someone drill something in my mouth (drilling that causes you to smell SMOKE) with nothing to numb the pain!

I think you should go right from the V twins to shooties. Why take a chance and be in pain? :) Feel better soon!

  14. Angi says:

Well…I don’t know why you would use dry ones, that would be SO uncomfortable, and probably painful! I always would just soak them in cold water for a couple minutes and then bite down on them, wherever the pulled tooth - a.k.a. “gaping hole” - was.

  15. John M says:

I have been suffering from the pain since 1 month and am fear of dentist and all his tools. your post encourage me to pull that pain engine out of my mouth.

  16. Corrina says:

Nick - I am SO relieved now to have that all overwith. I’m thrilled to not have that miserable pain anymore.

Florida Girl In Sydney - I barely felt the initial shot. That was to numb my face enough for him to give me the whammy shots- which I barely felt. Not bad at all. He even said I did very well. LOL

Natural - I know how you feel! I almost bit my lip more than once (something he warned me about) but I quickly realized I had rubber between my teeth and didn’t bite down. I was so aware of my foreign face that I was extra careful not to hurt myself. lol

Susan - I am inclined to agree that there IS no pain like tooth pain. It just attacks your entire HEAD. I don’t cry easily, but that had me in the fetal position praying for death. I could not IMAGINE not having novocain!! The amount of effort it took him to pull out my tooth (a molar) would have killed me if I wasn’t numb. Whomever doesn’t need numbing drugs is amazing. And yes… shooties on the way very soon!

Angi - I’m willing to try the tea bag thing but I only have regular ones. Not yummy flavored teas. I wonder how that will taste…

John M Hi there! Thanks for the visit and comment! Dentistry is very scary but it shouldn’t be. They have indeed come a long way. It was all very fast and painless and SO worth it. I don’t have any more pain and THAT is wonderful.

Oh, gosh .. I’ve never had a tooth out while conscious, either. I am totally DREADING the idea of maybe having to lose one under local. I had my wisdom teeth out in hospital, under GA. I was completely out, which is how I like it. Or at least, it’s how I can tolerate it. I have a great dentist, but oh, how I hate going to have stuff done!

I’m glad it’s over for you and it went well. I hope the healing goes well too!
