Fuck You Bakersfield!
On May 15th of this year, The California Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage. A decision that I, personally, support whole-heartedly and that made me very proud to be a Californian.
About a week ago, one of my girlfriends got a call from her hometown courthouse in Bakersfield, CA. She and her (male) fiance (who will be deployed in August) had planned to marry there in July. She was told that they would not be able to get married there anymore, as they were putting a stop to all civil ceremonies as of Friday the 13th. She immediately knew why, although they didn’t outright tell her that they did not want to marry homosexuals.
A few minutes ago I was reading my Yahoo! homepage and came across a headline that read, “New law prompts Calif. county to halt all weddings“. I immediately knew which asshole county they were speaking of.
According to the article, the County Clerk, Ann Barnett, stated that “the increased demand for ceremonies would overwhelm her staff and pose office security risks.” Are you fucking kidding me? I’ve BEEN to Bakersfield. It’s a fucking shit-hole, nothing town that most of the state simply drives through on their way to places that DON’T suck. I find it very hard to believe that there are just hundreds of gay couples dying to get married there. I’d die of fucking shock if there were FIVE. I’d also like to know exactly how gays are security risks. Do they all carry guns now and threaten to kill those that don’t believe what they do? Oh wait… that’s not gays… it’s fucking intolerant, ignorant, “Christian” heteros.
The rest of the article states, “She made the announcement after learning she could not marry only couples of her choosing.” No. Fucking. Shit.
Ann Barnett is a homophobic, backwards-thinking moron who should NOT be allowed to shut down the courthouse because she doesn’t want to marry gay couples. I don’t want to deal with assholes, who’s faces I want to rip off, but I do because THAT’S MY JOB. Guess what YOUR job is Ms. Barnett? Marrying everyone who has the legal right to BE married. Period. If you don’t like it, find another job where you can inflict your bullshit on others without infringing on their rights.

Hmmmm… I am surprised a County Clerk could get away with such a thing. Gavin Newsom can’t ban guns in SanFran, no matter how loudly he whines (thank goodness). Ann Barnett is similarly helpless. It’s the law of the land - she can’t do anything about it, except quit, if she doesn’t want to marry gays. Hopefully your friend (or other aggrieved parties) can sue her into doing her FUCKING job.
Or mount a recall to throw Barnett out of office. Maybe there’s a Justice of the Peace around who will do it instead of at the courthouse?

Wow. I was shocked to read that the article stated outright that the halting of civil ceremonies came after Barnett found out she couldn’t marry whom she chose.

Not to be to technical, but actually “Los Banos” is a shit-hole. But I do agree with you 100% fucking percent. Bakersfield is a no good, backwards, armpit of a town. It started out as a small truckstop in the middle of no where and became a large truckstop in the middle of no where.

Hi Daisy! That pretty much floored me too. I would hope that SOMEONE would sue them, but most of that shit-hole agrees with her. My girlfriend wasn’t surprised at all. They’ll be getting married in Vagas now.
My Favorite Martian - I know, right? I can’t believe NO one is challenging her on this. It’s ridiculous. If that happened in MY city shit would hit the fan very quickly.

What do you expect for Bakersfield? Regardless if its law or not, they will twist the law to fit there need. Fucked up isn’t? What the hell do they make laws for if officials deal with things the way they want to. So what if she doesn’t want to marry gays its her dam job. She should be dam glad she has a job.You don’t want to do the work then get the hell out. Let someone who would appreciate a job and that is willing to do the job regardless if they don’t like or disagree with something. Dam haven’t any of you got it in your heads yet, life still goes on get over it. All she is doing is making it harder on the rest of us because she wants it her way or else. She needs to get her head out of her ass. So what if gays want to marry. It is there decision to marry just like it is her decision to get her head out of her ass. She needs to grow the fuck up! First of all, you’re an idiot. We should all be “taking issue with the Feds and stop wasting the state’s time”? Really?
This isn’t a “Federal” issue- it is a STATE issue. Which is exactly why the STATE of California will be voting on it in November. Read a newspaper (it’s more than just pictures) before you comment about shit you know nothing about.
And my commenters may not always “curse correctly”, but at least they make sense and argue intelligently. Unlike yourself.
