Let’s Keep It Simple
Good God. I just spent over an hour at the EntreCard site trying to “drop my card” on the blogs of people who have dropped their’s here. What a pain in the ass that is. I’m also hungover and lazy today, so that might be contributing to the lack of patience I am experiencing.
First of all, I don’t have hours and hours of expendable time. I didn’t even get through HALF the blogs that dropped cards here. And while I do intend to go back and continue, I felt the need to bitch about it first. I’d also like to note a couple of things that made me want to grow a giant hand and have a bitch-slap-a-thon:
1.) Some blogs are so loaded with shit that they take forever to load. I’m not waiting for your blog to load just so I can click your EC widget. If you have two columns crammed with widgets, banners, ads, buttons and other useless shit, I’m skipping you. Sorry.
2.) Blogs that play music piss me off. Either take that shit off your blog, or turn OFF auto-play. The second I hear music, I’m out of there. I love music more than life itself, but I didn’t create a little playlist of my favorites to force on you.
So there ya have it. If you’ve dropped a card here and I haven’t returned the favor- it’s either because I haven’t had time, you have WAY too much crap to load, or you inflicted your shitty music on me.
Now I’m going back to try and finish what I started. Or to delete my account. I haven’t decided yet. I need an aspirin and a nap.

Dude! This is totally funny because I was just looking for a plugin that would play music & video . . . but I wasn’t going to use autoplay, I swear. I got a few comments that my site could use some a/v.
I never did figure out EntreCard. It sounds an awful lot like LinkReferral. PS: I’m about 20 minutes away from a drunk post. Some bitches really pissed me off yesterday when all I wanted to do is get a fucking pedicure. The girls who work there know me and were asking about my boys, then we talked about each others’ kids. When I mentioned that mine were well over 10 lbs each when they were born, one of the bitches chimed in about how I kept up breast feeding such big babies. Then all hell broke lose!!

I’m trying out Entrecard for a few weeks. During this testing phase I want to see how “sticky” my visitors are. If it turns out it’s only drive-by traffic, I’m gone. There are not enough hours in the day!
I’m with you on the music thing. There’s probably nothing worse a person could do to their blog than play music when the page loads. ARGGHH!

One side note… I have actually found some great new blogs to follow while dropping cards. I typically follow Humor-Blogs.com for the best humor sites, but Entrecard’s humor category gave me a new supply to check out.

I tried to install music on my blog for months. Finally when I got it work, I immediately realized how annoying it is. So I stopped. Instead, I post music as links. If the user wants to hear it, fine. If not, they skip it.

I’m with you on the “no music” thing. Of course, I’m somewhat grateful to blogs that do automatically play music. It’s as if they’re saying, “you won’t like this blog…best to leave now.”

Hah! I LOVE this post. You said what most of us don’t have the balls to say. *LOL*
I’m still new to EC. So far I’ve realized that you get out of it what you put into it and the upside to it is that there are LOTS of good blogs out there that I’m running across and bookmarking, even linking up with. So, there is a lot of “drive through” traffic with EC. Just like anything else, I guess you have to take the good with the bad.
I absolutely HATE the autoplay music. I keep my speakers turned off just for that reason. I never know if there is music playing or not.

I came across a song called, “Saga of the Blue Beaver”. I figured there is no chance that anyone out there wouldn’t want to hear it the instant they showed up at my blog. After reading your thoughts on the subject I am re-thinking the plan.
I have to find some way of preventing people from leaving until the song is done.

I am new to this Entrecard thing too. It takes an enormous amount of time, there are so many blogs to check out. I’m enjoying it though and do not plan to do it everyday. Don’t worry about dropping on mine. I may not get to all my drop-ins either to return them. I refuse to let Entrecard dominate my life!!!

Fashion - If you got music, you wouldn’t use auto-play so that’s a good thing. EntreCard isn’t complicated, just time consuming- if you want to get anything out of it. Oh yeah and I love when you drunk post! LOL Sorry to hear that you almost had to smack a bitch though. Oh God, maybe you did! Did you?? LOL
Kathy - I’m not sure how sticky my visitors are. I guess I should probably have a look at that, huh? Ha ha ha From what I’ve seen, it’s mostly drive-by traffic. And you’re right… There AREN’T enough hours in the day!
I have ended up bookmarking blogs that I ran across via EC too… There are some great ones out there that use it. I’ve never actually been to the humor blogs site… I think I’ll go today.

Seriously, I’m with you. I do most of my dropping while on the phone or watching TV, so the slower-loading sites don’t bother me as much as the music. THE MUSIC! Who thinks that is a good idea? I am NEVER going to like the song, even if it’s a song I like, if that makes sense. Just annoying. Worse is when they don’t have a player easily accessible so you can turn the damn thing off. Altho that rarely matters—I’m usually outta there by then.

JD - I was out of there so fast I don’t even remember what blogs I was at! LOL… The music is just the worst for me too. I understand wanting to share your faves with the world but give the world the option to turn it off, ya know?
Sarah - Don’t be discouraged! LOL… There are lots and lots of people who LOVE EntreCard and get a lot out of it. I just don’t have the time I’d need to really get into it.
