I Just Wanna Send A Picture!
I had such high hopes when I called AT&T customer service today to get my plan changed. The lady I spoke with was “I got a little drunk at lunch” nice, we confirmed repeatedly what I was getting, and I hung up with a sense of peace and happiness. I found myself mentally high-fiving Kathy (or was it Karen?) all the way to work.
Once home from work, I had more time to play with my new phone and it’s new features. It was then that I realized that I still could not send or receive multimedia and the Internet only worked via Wi-Fi. FACK!
I looked up the settings for both (on AT&T’s Web site) and put them in my phone. Internet: Check. Multimedia: Still no. FACK! The MAIN reason I kicked my iPhone to the curb was because it painfully lacked that feature. To most cell phone users, I’m sure this isn’t a big deal. To cell phone junkies like myself, however, it causes headaches and gas pains.
Soooo… I get to call back tomorrow and find out what the problem is. There are a million things I’d rather do than that, and they are all painful.
Oh yeah, and my voice mail doesn’t work either.
Peace, Brazilian waxes and bee stings.

Dude. That totally blows. (No exclamation points or elipses tonight. I took a vicodin at 7:00 for back pain, and then proceeded to have a couple of lemon drops. I’m soooo mellow right now that I’d pretty much agree to do anything.)
I hate getting on the phone with cell customer service. My last experience was me trying to get Verizon to lower their data and text plan price ($99) to the iPhone price ($59) while upgrading my phone. I failed miserably. Long story short, they said no, I didn’t upgrade my phone, and I’ll be joining the ranks of ATT wireless in August, when my contract ends. Cool with me anyway, since most of my friends are on that network.
Good luck. I’m off to watch Heavy Metal or some other stoner movie that would only be good when on drugs.

Oh F.P. I do look forward to your comments… (I’ll ellipse for us both.)
Vikey and lemon drops… An interesting (and obviously pleasant) combination.
I’m a little jealous! LOL
I can’t believe Verizon charges that much for data and text!! That’s outrageous! AT&T gave me unlimited everything (multimedia, Internet and text) for $30. I’m glad you’re moving… You’ll like AT&T. I’ve been with them for over 5 years and I’m very happy. I only left once, for T-Mobile b/c their plans were so CHEAP, but their coverage was shit, so I went back.
I hope you enjoy Heavy Metal! I haven’t seen that movie in AGES! Ya big stoner you! LOL!

You know, I have seen SO many people have the same problems as you are having with your phone. If the phone’s hardware even does what you want it to do, your carrier doesn’t support it. VERY frustrating. Overseas users seem to have a lot easier time of it because all their phones are unlocked, whereas the US phones are monopoly-bound to the carrier.
I have had Verizon for nearly a decade, and I’m very happy with it, but I’m also not using Internet or multimedia. So many of those features are still “not ready for prime time” in the cellphone industry. And I often work in bunkers where I can’t get reception anyway. Sigh.
“I got a little drunk at lunch” - ha! I wish more of THOSE people would answer my calls, instead of being sullen or pissy with me. “I didn’t make you take that awful job,” I want to tell them. “But I’ll be nice to you while I’m here, unless you’re a real jerk, in which case I’ll be needing your badge number and a chat with your supervisor.”

Hmmm. I’m jealous of the Vicodin/lemon drops combo too, but I really came here to ask whether you think gas pains are more painful than a Brazilian wax. I’ve had some REALLY bad gas pains, but I don’t think they’re in the same category as the ripping off of tender nether-flesh.
Regardless, I’m sorry about your phone. I hope it gets fixed.

i should expect a little more out of my phone.
you can’t send pictures wirelessly? that would suck, i’m sure my phone does that…not that i do it much.

Oh man, that totally sucks. I think you should track down semi-drunk Kathy (or Karen) and kick her ass.
Hopefully you get it sorted out SOON! Oh, and yeah, I’d take the gas pains over a Brazilian wax any day! lol

Hello Marvin! My phone is unlocked. (It’s usable in any country.) I only buy unlocked phones for that very reason. The only phone I’ve ever had that was carrier-specific was the iPhone. Most of my phones, in fact, were not even released in the U.S. when I purchased them (some still aren’t), yet worked perfectly on our networks. My problem isn’t with the phone. I’m sure of that. I just don’t think she got the info transferred correctly to my device. They’ve done that to me before.
Switching from an iPhone to another phone is tricky (I’m sure they make it that way on purpose!) and I’m not surprised it didn’t work flawlessly. It took her about 15 minutes just to get the iPhone plan off of my account. I can’t really blame her though… She was feelin’ a little giddy. lol
JD - I am voting for gas pains over a Brazilian. Unless there is actual flesh ripped off during the latter- in which case you’re having it done way wrong! LOL
Natural - Multimedia is huge to me… so I really hope they work this out. I’m sure it will get fixed though… I’ll just take a seditive before I call back. lol
Leigh - Karen/Kathy really did try. And she was really nice. I’m with Marvin whereas I’d rather deal with someone pleasant (who screws up a little) than someone with a serious attitude problem. So I forgive her just b/c she was nice. Ha ha!

Bleh. Cellphone companies are the black hole of customer service. It amazes me that these companies can invent futuristic state of the art technology, but when you call them for help they have no clue what to do. Good luck with that - I hope you get it straightened out soon.

Interesting… I have never bought an unlocked phone - I have enough trouble with phones that the carrier DOES support. I just want it to work, to have clear reception, and to last an incredibly long time on the battery. I’m disappointed at how many phones fail even to do that. Thank goodness for Martian telepathy, because I’ve had to resort to that several times.

I just heard about the 300-page phone bills that early iPhone adopters started getting last fall. Hopefully you didn’t get a bill like that!

Hi again Jeff - Yes I agree that cell customer service can suck the life right out of you. lol… So far I have the voice mail fixed. Drunk girl forgot that taking my iPhone plan off my account left me without any voice mail (as iPhones have visual voice mail) and therefore also forgot to attach a new voice mail account to my phone. LOL. Multimedia however is still not working… I gotta call back, but I’ll save THAT call for tomorrow, when I don’t have to go to work, so that I have ALL day for it. Ugh.
Marvin - I tried to get to the first link you included but it’s been moved.
And yes, I SAW that 300 page madness that iPhone users had to deal with (iJustine made a video about it!)
Luckily, I was signed up for online billing before I ever got the iPhone. I’ve never had to deal with it.

Yikes!!! sorry for the bad iPhone expierence. I’ve had nothing but great luck with mine. There are several free web based programs that make sending photos eaiser. Video is a whole other issue.
ATnT is now offering a carrier pigeon supplement for iPhone users. For an additional $5.99 a month you get three trained pigeons, a ball of twine, and 10 DVD-RW’s. Just burn your multimedia, tie it off, and VOLA!!!!….in three to ten days your multimedia transaction is complete.
