Bye Bye iPhone
Well, it’s official: I’m over the iPhone. It is pretty, and useful and I’ve enjoyed it very much- but with no multimedia messaging (or other features I need in a phone) in sight, I’m ready to move on.
This decision has been bittersweet, I must say. I LOVE the iPod, Google Maps & instant iTunes downloads. However, I really hate not being able to send or receive multimedia messages. Every time someone sends me anything other than a plain text, this is what I have to do: Go online (with my computer because iPhone also does not support Flash), log into AT&T’s junky-ass, Flash-based “multimedia center” (using a random username and password), then cross my fingers and hope that attempt was successful. Sometimes it is… sometimes it takes several tries. Either way, it’s a big pain in the ass and I’m over having to deal with that.
Another thing I’m “over” having to deal with is my monthly bill. It’s ridiculous. And since iPhone’s have their own plans, there isn’t a lot I can do about it. My bill this month is $123.00. Doesn’t matter… I’m getting out.
So I have already found the phone that makes my heart beat fast. However, said phone costs more than my iPhone did- so I was prepared to wait and save up like a good girl until I could afford it without having to sacrifice Dirty Porn Stars and hot wings. And then a brilliant idea came to me: CraigsList.
There is this nifty little area of CraigsList for bartering. So I posted an ad… My iPhone for My Dream Phone. And today I got an email from a very nice person willing to trade me his very new phone-of-my-dreams for my little iPhone. Yipee! After many email exchanges, the deal was made and it goes down Monday. I can hardly wait. Wish me luck.
Peace and CraigsList happiness.

Good for you! Get rid of the crappy iPhone. After a massive media blitz before it came out, and after a couple of stories about “unlocked” iPhones and how half of all iPhones sold weren’t activated on ATT’s network, and how the battery can’t be changed except at the factory once a year, and how the price dropped immediately after the initial rush of buyers snapped up the first wave… I’ve heard nothing bad or good about the iPhone. So your experience is interesting. Most iPhone users I’ve seen are pretentious, waving it around, begging for attention on the bus or the train. I know that you are NOT pretentious. Hence you are getting rid of the iPhone.
I expect that we will see a few posts singing the praises of your new baby, after you acquire it? I hope so.
Please be careful in your Craigslist exchange, and bring a large friend or a gun - I have heard nasty stories about Craigslist deals gone bad. Good luck!

WOW! That’s awesome. I gotta check out that bartering part of Craigslist. I have an extra pair of iPod speakers I need to unload.
I’m glad you got the phone of your dreams.

Good for you! I’ve been suspicious of the iPhone since it came out. I’m waiting for the later versions when hopefully your issues and the battery issue are resolved.

Ya know, Marvin, it’s funny you mention people who wave it around. I was just the opposite with it. While I liked to Blog about it’s fabulousness- in public I kept it hidden as much as possible. I guess I didn’t want to look like the people who put them out on their tables in restaurants, or walked around with it in their hands all the time. I’m lame, but I’m not THAT lame. LOL… I’m gonna miss it, but I’m ready to move on. And oh yes, my Martian friend, you will be reading about my new baby. I just don’t want to jinx it yet! Ha ha And I will be taking a large friend with me to make the deal. That’s for SURE.
JD - I highly recommend the bartering area of CraigsList! I was shocked at all the cool stuff that’s up for trade there! But heed Marvin’s warning and be safe with your dealings.
Lucky for me I have a mean right hook. Ha!
Honeybell - Hi again! I will probably cry when the new versions come out and they do everything mine doesn’t. lol… I really enjoyed the phone and I will miss certain features very much but, like I said- I’m ready for a change. And the battery issue is just stupid, really. Isn’t it?
Katie - Welcome back! And I know!! I love, love, love CraigsList! If this deal works out well, I definitely plan to unload more stuff there!

I never got swept up into the iCraze. I don’t even have an iPod! People think there’s something wrong with me. Plus, I only have a cell phone for work. I don’t own a personal one. I’m anti-tech in a lot of ways.

Thank you, THANK YOU for coming out with some reasons why not to like the iPhone. My next new phone may be the Verizon Wireless XV6900. (I’ve got the older version of the XV right now.) I need smartphones because I use the calendar and contact synching with outlook and need the push e-mail for work. Good luck with the swap . . . Craigslist rocks!!

Kathy - I’m definitely going to have to get another iPod now. I LOVE iTunes and I have so many albums and songs I’ll die if I can’t listen to them. There’s nothing wrong with you though. iThings aren’t for everyone. lol
Fashion Paramedic - The iPhone is so great in so many ways, yet so NOT great in so many others. I could make a long list of things I don’t like about it, but I’m over it. It was a fun phone for 4 months and now I’m moving on… As soon as I get my greedy little hands on it, I’ll post something about it. I’m gonna look up the phone you mentioned, but I’ll wait ’til after Monday so that I don’t get cell phone envy and cry. LOL

I’ve always wanted an iphone even though it’s not available here but now that you’ve just highlighted some very important (to me at least) missing functions. I’ve just decided the iphone is not for me …

Nick - Good for you! I’ll miss the iTunes, but my new phone does everything iPhone does and everything it DOESN’T… Just without a touch screen, but I really don’t need that to be happy.
